Books 2021-01-11 In the literal sense, geoengineering is "engineering applied to the Earth". The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) defines geoengineering as "a broad group of methods and technologies aimed at intentionally altering the climate system to mitigate the effects of climate change." Stratospheric Aerosol Injection is a very promising geoengineering solution to Global Warming because, based on research conducted on numerous recent and historic volcanic eruptions such as Mount Pinatubo in 1991 and complex climate model simulations, there is strong evidence that it would be very effective in cooling the planet and mitigating the effects of Climate Change. Geoengineering methods are immature. This is true , but the reason is that geoengineering has for decades been under a cloud of suspicion that has made research on these methods a virtual taboo. Now that we need them to reverse global warming, they are woefully underdeveloped. Intentional modification of Earth's climate by geoengineering can restore global mean temperature in climate model simulations but is expected to cause regional inequalities in temperature change and shifts in precipitation which may depend on the geoengineering method employed.

Carbon geoengineering methods aim to capture and remove CO2 from ambient air. This approach reduces the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere directly. 12 Nov 2020 These techniques are often divided into two broad categories: solar radiation management (SRM), which aims to temporarily cool the Earth by 3 Jul 2019 Risks of Controversial Geoengineering Approach “May Be Overstated”.

One that has gained my personal attention is stratospheric aerosol injection, or SAI, a method of seeding the stratosphere with particles that can help reflect the sun’s heat, in much the same way that volcanic eruptions do. Global warming is probably the biggest threat facing humanity. If all else fails, could climate-controlling technology be the answer? Read more here: https:/ All types of solar geoengineering – known also as solar radiation management (SRM) – are united by their goal of limiting the effect of sunlight on the Earth, but they vary widely in their approach.
